Southern Pines Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration 2026
Please join the West Southern Pines Civic Club, the Southern Pines Land & Housing Trust, and the Sandhills Circle of the Poor People’s Campaign of North Carolina for three days celebrating the life and legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Saturday, January 17, at 10:00 am, the celebration commences with the Annual MLK Breakfast at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 1715 Luther Way, Southern Pines, hosted by the West Southern Pines Civic Club. Tickets can be purchased at the West Southern Pines Center office.
Sunday, January 18, the Southern Pines Land & Housing Trust will host the Annual MLK Community Worship Service at the West Southern Pines Center Auditorium, 1250 W New York Avenue, Southern Pines, at 3:30 pm.
Monday, January 19, at 10:00 am, the Annual Martin Luther King Day March will begin at Downtown Park, 145 SE Broad Street, Southern Pines, and proceed to the West Southern Pines Cultural Arts Center.
Monday, January 19. Immediately after the conclusion of the march, the Sandhills Circle of the Poor People’s Campaign of North Carolina will conclude the celebrations with the Annual Martin Luther King Day Youth Program at the West Southern Pines Cultural Arts Center, 1250 W New York Avenue, Southern Pines.

Workers Over Billionaires: A Nationwide Call to Action
Join the Sandhills Circle of the Poor People’s Campaign as we march and rally as part of a nationwide action to support the interests of working people over the interests of billionaires.
We will gather in the parking lot at the Armory, 510 Morganton Road, in Southern Pines at 10:00 am and proceed to Hines Park (formerly Pool Park), 730 S Hensley St., at 10:15 am.
The Workers Over Billionaires Rally will begin at Hines Park at 11:00 am.
We welcome your creativity. Kid-friendly original signs supporting genuine needs of workers and workers families over the avarice of billionaires are welcome.

What to the Slave is the 4th of July: Frederick Douglass
Please join The NC Poor People's Campaign Sandhills Circle on Saturday, July 5th, for a reading of Frederick Douglass's "What to the Slave is the 4th of July?". The oration was originally delivered 173 years ago to the day. In light of present-day efforts to rewrite or suppress African-American history, this speech couldn't be more relevant. Time and place are on the flyer. We look forward to meeting you there.
MOORE Juneteenth 2025
Join us in celebrating Juneteenth 2025 over 2 days at two locations. On Friday, June 19th, the celebration will be at Cardinal Park at 657 Walnut St., in Pine Bluff, NC for music and arts by the lake from 3:00 pm - 9:00 pm. Then join us again on Saturday, June 20, at the West Southern Pines Center, 1250 W. New York Center in Southern Pines for music and storytelling from 4:00 pm - 8:00. We’ll be at both events with information and opportunities to participate in advocating for positive change. In a country where money is speech, you can become a voice for the voiceless. We look forward to seeing you at the celebrations.
